  1. PRACTICE YOUR PITCH with Lynne Heitman (space is limited to 40 participants, register early)
    The pitch workshop is an expansion of the popular roundtable offered each of the past two years at the Crime Bake Conference. This Friday night session gives participants a chance to revise their pitches and practice those revised pitches before the Saturday agent pitch sessions. More info


  2. CREATING A WAVE - Book Publicity 101" - with publicist Susan Schwartzman
    Publicist Susan Schwartzman has represented stellar mystery and thriller authors such as Joseph Finder. Her talk and Q&A session will address the different types of publicity campaigns for crime fiction--what works and why--and what authors can do to effectively promote their books in today's competitive market. Including:
    • - Why publicity matters in today's publishing world
    • - How to keep your book from getting lost on the bookshelves
    • - What types of publicity campaigns, what works and why
    • - What authors can do to effectively promote their books in today's competitive market
    • - How the Internet has become one of the optimal ways for debut novelists to promote a book, and what authors can do to establish a presence through the Internet
    • - How to establish a presence through mainstream media.
    • - The pros and cons of booksignings
    • - Why review coverage of any kind matters
    • - Why radio phoner campaigns are cost effective
    • - How authors can promote themselves online, including virtual tours, website reviews and blogging
    • - The pros and cons of booktrailers
    • - How TV appearances impact book sales
    • - Why touring is effective and when to consider touring
    • - What type of publicity campaign works for hardcovers vs. mass market originals and reprints

PITCH SESSION WITH LITERARY AGENTS: FREE
Crime Bake conference attendees are entitled to sign up for a Free 5-minute one-on-one session to pitch their work to a literary agent. This year, attendees will have the opportunity to list their top three agent choices.

TO REGISTER:
  • Check off the Agent Pitch Session box on the registration form.
  • Make sure your email is listed on your registration form.
  • The committee will email you in late September (when the agent list is complete) for your top three agent choices.
  • Sign up early, space is limited!
  • Attendees will hear about their pitch assignments on or around November 1.

Attendees can register for up to two of our four Friday Master Classes.

MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUES: (additional fee required)
Attendees may submit a 15-page writing sample (novel or short story) in advance and receive a one-on-one critique with a published mystery author during the conference.

TO REGISTER:
  • Be sure to read the Guidelines for Manuscript Critiques
  • Check off Manuscript Critique box on the registration form.
  • Check off the appropriate category of your work on the registration form.
  • Include an additional $50 (until Oct. 1) with your conference registration fee .
  • Oct. 2-15, fee is $60.
  • Sign up early to make sure you get your writing critiqued!

SATURDAY NIGHT BANQUET: (additional fee required)
This festive evening of fun, relaxation, and good food held on Saturday night includes a buffet dinner and "Mystery Bingo."

  • Include an additional $55 per dinner reservation with your registration fee.
  • Guests must be accompanied by a registered conference attendee.
